The Gigant dormitory is part of the Polytechnic Institute campus on Pushkinska Street, which includes six buildings of different periods. The dormitory was designed by architects Oleksandr Molokin and Heorhii Ikonnikov in the constructivist style and was built in 1928–1929. After the Second World War, the building was reconstructed by architect Noi Pidhornyi. As a result, the most distinctive modernist elements, such as glass staircase towers and balconies, were lost, and neoclassical decorative details were added.
